When I first thought of becoming Muslim, I had a lot of things going through my mind about what I could no longer do. One of the things that came to mind was having to cover my hair. See, I was one of the women who kept a fresh, new hairdo. It was nothing for me to come to work everyday with a different style. I enjoyed different looks and changing my hair was a big part of who I was (so I thought). This made the thought of becoming a Muslim a bit more challenging for me. I wasn't sure if I would be able to do it. But I had to ask myself, "what's more important....making it to Jennah (heaven) or my hair". When I thought of it like that, covering was no longer an issue. In fact, when I took my shahada, I began wearing my hijab the very next day. I do my hijabs like I did my hair.....a different style each day. I now have every color and style under the rainbow. Instead of changing my hair, I change my hijabs. So I'm still able to be myself, have my own style, and enjoy my hijab. I am comfortable in it and wouldn't leave home without it!
